Perched high in the Nafūsa Mountains, Nalut was a vital stop on trans-Saharan trade routes. Its crowning jewel, Qasr Nalut, is a spectacular hilltop ksar (fortified granary) with stacked chambers, narrow passages, and sweeping views over the desert below.

This ancient Amazigh settlement protected goods like grains, dates, and oils from raiders and harsh weather, serving as a community lifeline. Nalut also holds cultural significance, with nearby rock art sites and the Nalut Dinosaur Museum, which houses fossils of crocodiles and dinosaurs discovered in the region.
