A hauntingly beautiful Amazigh ghost village perched on a ridge, offering panoramic views and a journey back in time.
Clinging to a narrow rocky spine in the Nafūsa Mountains, Tarmeisa (also spelled Termisa or Tarmisa, locally Itermisen) is one of Libya’s most evocative abandoned Amazigh settlements. The honey-colored stone and mud houses appear to grow out of the cliff itself, connected by narrow passages, arches, and stairways.
Once a thriving village along caravan routes, Tarmeisa was eventually deserted, leaving behind a perfectly preserved slice of history. Walking among the ruins, travelers can imagine daily life centuries ago, from communal courtyards to defensive watchtowers.
The site offers spectacular sunset views over the surrounding plains and is a photographer’s dream.
